In the far South-eastern corner of the Iberian peninsula the sun-baked province of Almeria boasts the highest hours of sunshine and lowest rainfall in Europe. The Almeria coast is said to have a perfect climate and boasts the best all-year-round weather in the whole of Spain. Bordering the Tabernas Desert and warmed by the Mediterranean Sea, Almeria enjoys average summer temperatures of 30 °C , although you can expect plenty of weeks closer to 40 °C between May and October. The sea is particularly pleasant in the high season - actually a few degrees warmer than the Costa Del Sol! and with an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, the Costa Almeria has arguably the best climate in Europe. Protected by the towering Sierra Nevada mountain range, the region is an ideal destination to escape the British winter with average temperatures of 12 °C and little rainfall. Being an actual desert there isn't much rainfall, the winters are pleasant with temperatures rarely falling below 15°C degrees, so makes an ideal all year round location. During the summer, temperatures average around 30°C so you're assured a pleasant stay no matter what season you visit. The summer season lasts from April until October, the peak months of July and August are the hottest. So, if topping up your tan is your main idea, then book your holiday for these months and you're guaranteed fantastic weather. There's no need to bring a brolly, unless of course a freak storm has arrived, as rainfall for summer in the Costa de Almeria is pretty much non-existent with just 1mm in July and August. |

| Those on family holidays in Costa de Almeria may appreciate the warm weather and pleasant evenings of the earlier and later summer months of May and September when the days are still hot and sunny, but not quite as extreme as the peak summer months. Daytime temperatures in Almeria during these months are in the mid-high 20's so it's still very warm, and a bit more bearable for children. Evening temperatures rarely fall below around 13 °C so you just need to a pack a light jacket if you're not too keen on the sea breezes.
Rainfall in these months is low, approximately 15mm, so you're unlikely to be caught by many rain showers either. |
